This is the extraordinary story of the Victorian steamship YAVARI on Lake Titicaca, Peru, in the Andes mountains of South America.

Built in England in 1862 the YAVARI was delivered in pieces by mule to the Lake over 2 miles (3810 metres) above sea level. After close on 100 years of faithful service she was found in Puno Port slipping rapidly into decay.

Now having been saved and restored as a positive asset to the local communities. The YAVARI is moored in Puno Bay (by the Sonesta Posada Hotel).

The YAVARI has a future as well as a past. By applying the same vision and ingenuity as got her there in the first place, the YAVARI can be reborn to serve again. Today the restoration programme has reached its most critical stage.
